Arabic has been taught as a second language in this institution since its inception. The department become a full fledged one by the introduction of degree in Arabic in 1968. The scheme and syllabi of the programme are prepared by the board of studies under the Kannur University. The Programme aims to enable the students to pursue higher studies and to take up a job in India and abroad. It is pride to the Department that a lot of its product are working in High Ranks in and abroad. Many of them are working in oil-rich gulf countries.
The department functions as a nexus between the Gulf countries and local public job aspirants. It has been recognized as the authorized centre for English-Arabic and Arabic-English translations. Translation and attestation works of documents related to travel, business, academic, commercial, legal, medical, governmental and diplomatic fields are carried out by the department.
