Short Biography


Biju P.R. is a writer, teacher and blogger. His research interests lay at the intersection of technology and society. He has written extensively on the interface between social media and politics in popular web journals, academic outlets and online news portals. He is preoccupied with artificial intelligence, love, sexuality and relationships and the link between technology and religion in India, in that order.

His Ph D thesis with the broad title Social Media and Democracy, centres on how social media derails the democracy and divisive tendencies finds root in digital platforms.

A peer reviewer for reputed impact factor journal- the Asian Journal of Communication (Routledge), and contributor to the academic outlets South Asia Politics, Indian Journal of Political Science, Biju has established his credibility as a serious scholar on technology, society and Internet on various platforms such as Merinews, India Opines, and occasional articles to other platforms.

He has more than thirteen years of teaching, writing and research experiences with many acclaimed works to his credit. He has worked as member of Board of Studies in Kannur University, Examination Evaluator, Resource Person to Kerala PSC- a government recruitment agency in India, and member of the College Council, the highest decision making and administrative body of the institution he has been working currently. He has experiences as convenor of national seminars, mentor to various university programmes, among others.

Assistant professor at the Department of Political Science, Government Brennen College, Thalassery, Kerala, he is also the author of Political Internet: State and Politics in the Age of Social Media (Routledge 2016), Intimate Speakers: Why Introverted and Socially Ostracized Citizens Use Social Media (Fingerprint! 2017), Selfie Sex: How Internet Spoiled Our Intimacies, (Kalamos 2018) and Slave Technology: The New Age Frankenstein (Rupa 2019). His upcoming book, with Rupa, tentatively titled We Are Products: How technologies invade our life in the age of artificial intelligence? ((Rupa 2020) is about the impacts of artificial intelligence on society.
