The Department of Commerce, Govt. Brennen College, Thalassery, was established in November 1995. Right from the beginning, the department offered BBS program and from 2006 onward. The BBS program (Bachelor of Business Studies) converted into B.B.A (Bachelor of Business Administration) program. From 2012 onward, the Department offers M.Com (Finance) course. New UG program, B.Com with Co-operation was sanctioned by the Higher Education Council, Govt. of Kerala in 2020 and functioning from 2020 onward. Sanctioned seats for different programs are 24, 40,and 20 respectively for BBA, B.Com and M.Com. The duration of UG course is three years and PG is 2 years. The admission to the courses is purely on merit and also ensures the statutory reservation of the seats for SC/ST and eligible sports persons. There is one day industrial visit for Second year students of BBA. It provides the students an opportunity for studying the Production system, Management Practices, Financial aspects and Marketing Strategy of various Industrial undertakings. The final year UG and PG students have to carry out project as part of their curriculum. Right from the beginning, the Department has been successful in achieving good academic result and we are quite confident that we can maintain and improve it. We have produced several rank holders in the Kannur University Examination. A good number of students choose CMA, M.B.A and other professional courses for their higher education. The department provides ample academic environment to support SC/ST and economically backward students. The department conducts various program like Management Fest, seminars, workshops etc. to equip the students with leadership quality and soft skills.
