The department is a complementary department that was initiated in 1999. The programme is offered as a complementary subject to B A Functional English and B A Political Science. It has been awarded a separate entity, only in December 2013, when a permanent appointment was made. Currently it is functioning with a single faculty. The papers offered are Mass communication studies, Introduction to mass communication (odd semesters) and Print media journalism, Print media practices (even semesters). The paper offered as open course is Journalism studies, Introduction to journalism. The programme is currently being utilized by B A Functional English ( 40 students ) and B A Political Science ( 45 students ). Classes are conducted for 6 hours per week for each department.
